Diver Master Training Course

OUTLINE

We provide Dive Master certifications from:

The Divemaster course consists of three modules: Knowledge Development, Water skills and Stamina, and Practical Application.

You’ll probably progress through all three modules simultaneously; based upon the course schedule you and your instructor agree upon. The schedule will depend on your needs and the instructors needs, local logistics, and course requirements. (The recommended minimum course time is 50 hours, we prefer however to make it a minimum of 9 days).

Knowledge Development
Twelve topics make up the Knowledge Development Module. You’ll cover these 12 topics through independent study, projects and discussions. They include:

  • Diving Physics
  • Diving Physiology
  • Equipment
  • Diving skills and environment
  • Recreational dive planner

Water Skills and Stamina

The Water skills and stamina module has two goals – to develop and evaluate your overall water skills and stamina, and to improve upon your existing scuba skills. You’ll complete several timed swims and other exercises in confined water, and you’ll refine your basic scuba skill so that you can role model for beginning divers learning those skills. You’ll also refresh and refine your rescue skills.

Practical Application
The practical applications module allows you to learn and and practice Divemaster skills by applying what you learn during the knowledge Development and Water skills and stamina modules. You’ll begin by completing four required training exercises:

  • A mapping project
  • An underwater problem solving exercise
  • Implementing a Divemaster conducted program
  • Managing a diving accident scenario

After the required training exercises you’ll have a chance to develop and practice Divemaster skills with actual students and divers, under instructor supervision, during an internship, or you may develop and practice those skills with simulated student divers during 4 Practical Training Exercises.

PREREQUISITES FOR ENTERING THE COURSE
In order to qualify for Divemaster training, one must first be certified as a Rescue Diver or an equivalent rating. The term equivalency is defined as proof of certification in diving rescue from a training agency. Also have at least 20 logged dives prior to starting and 60 logged dives prior to certification.

In addition, due to legal considerations, Divemaster candidates must be 18 years of age or older (at the start of training).

Divemasters must possess emotional maturity in order to take responsibility for the safety of others. Likewise, an equally high degree of physical stamina and diving skill – more so than required for the average diver.
